christmas-galaSHINE Women’s Ministry is so excited to be joining with She Loves up in Prince George! We really believe that TOGETHER we can Change the World!

If you’re in Prince George, come and be a part of “A Night of Hope” Christmas Gala Saturday November 29!

This year at our Sparkle Women’s Conference we started on an “Extreme Home Makeover” project for Samaritan Inn, our church’s home for recovering women. We raised over $6700.00 to begin a renovation on the front room of the house.

This Saturday we are continuing the project with a Christmas Gala called “A Night of Hope” At the gala we will be revealing our “Tree of Hope” full of ornaments that the girls can purchase. Each ornament will buy an item currently needed at the home from bedding and towels, to furniture and electronics.

Our heart is for each girl when they walk through the front doors of that house to know that they are HOME. That from the second they come in the doors the heart of the Father is revealed to them through the beauty, the peace, and the value of their surroundings. That they would know they are valuable beyond measure and that there is a father in heaven who loves them and a company of women here on earth that believe in them.

Lets bring HOPE this Christmas!

CALLING ALL KNITTERS, friends of knitters, sewers, craft fair shoppers…

We’re wanting to gather 65 pairs of slippers for our sisters at the Fraser Valley Correctional Institute for Christmas, to let them know there is a company of women thinking and praying for them. They are not forgotten, they are not insignificant. We believe in them, and bring value to them by taking time to make some cozy slippers!

The average age of the girls is 28.

IDEAS FOR SLIPPERS:

- Make a simple pair (Knit, sew). No bobbles, etc.
- Head over to a Craft Fair in your area and buy a pair of homemade slippers (make sure to tell the lady who made them who they are for!)
- You may KNOW SOMEONE who DOES knit… a friend, a Grandma… ask them to make a pair!

We ask that you bring them into Relate Church @ Life Women on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1st. A team of our ladies will then be delivering them to the girls at FVI.

TIME TO GET CREATIVE!

*** UPDATE: NOVEMBER 19 - We now have at least 30 pairs of slippers but we’re looking for more! Please bring them in by December 1st. Thank you! ***

Pastor John Raises over $30,000 for Mercy Canada!

Pastor John, inspired by The Love Dare, recently took on the huge challenge of golfing 100 holes in one day at Peace Portal Golf Course, carrying his clubs, without a golf cart, to raise sponsorship funds for the new Mercy Ministries home in South Surrey.

He started at 4:45 am (in the dark) on July 13th and finished in just over 12 hours. Pastor John’s highlight of the day was hearing the reports coming in of the sponsorship continuing to rise. The goal was to raise 20,000 to pay for the construction of the classroom for our first Canadian Mercy Ministries Home. We started the day with about 15,000 in pledges but as the updates kept going out on twitter and facebook, the pledges kept coming in and the final total was over 30,000!

So, the challenge goes out - What can YOU do to make a difference?

770 Beautiful Red Boxes were packed full (and kind of overflowing!) with toiletries, beauty essentials and fun treats last Wednesday. Thanks to all who came to help pack and stack! The boxes have been distributed to organizations that will pass them along and hopefully put a smile on sisters’ faces across our city.

The message on each box: You are loved by God in heaven and thought of by sisters on earth.

The $10,000 Dare

1070365_68550240What better way to put our faith into action than by attaching it to a measurable goal? As we are listening to God on how we may respond to Love this summer, let’s put feet to this Love Dare by raising dollars that will sponsor a room at the new Mercy Ministries home in Surrey, BC. As we each do our part, together we can sponsor a room at the home that will bring freedom to so many girls.

What are you planning to do? Will you do a bottle drive with your kids? Host a dinner party for friends and ask them to give a donation? Have a bake sale? A car wash? Your effort will be unique, but what will connect us is the collective desire to do something to show God’s Love in our city, our community and our nation.

Go, and Love! But remember to come back and tell us your story. We look forward to seeing this Love revolution sweep through our cities.

971615_42384730What will your summer hold? Will you come away with a tan and a rest? Or will you dare to Love?

This summer, we would like to dare you to Love. Love your city, love your community, love your neighbours, love your world.

We are looking for a company of women who will represent God’s Love on the earth and revolutionize our world in doing so.

“Let’s hear the cry of humanity,” said Pastor Helen Burns, speaking to the girls gathered at LifeWomen on the last Tuesday morning before summer holidays. “And we will become the answer.”

She added: “We can’t take care of everything, but we can take care of something.”

Here’s the D.A.R.E.:
1. Decide to live a life of giving.
2. Ask God what He’s got for you to do.
3. Respond with a willing, expectant, committed heart.
4. Engage.

What can you do this summer to make a difference and show God’s love? How will you do it?

Please let us know how YOU are planning to Love. What is God nudging you to do? What is on your heart? Let us know! Leave a comment and we’ll keep the buzz going.

God’s girls, on assignment

img_0153We’re on for Day three at our LifeWomen conference 2009. The Love is tangible. It’s in the way we make room for each other. The hugs. The caring. Carpooling with friends and forming beautiful, deep, fun relationships.

And when we’re filled up, we can give it away. Yesterday we returned over 300 bright red lunchboxes with a $5 donation to be filled with goodies for our sisters in need. In the words of Pastor Helen, we are saying to the world: “There’s a God in heaven who sees you and a company of women who care … ”

We are God’s girls, on assignment. “When we get connected with others, God does something bigger.”
